The low light capability of the X100 is one of the reasons I bought it and here it has demonstrated how good it can be.

Lion Upgrade - a Few Pointers

If you are considering "upgrading" to Apple's Lion system, a few tips:

1. NEFs (Nikon's RAW file format) don't render properly in Preview.
2. On my MacBook Pro (12m old or thereabouts), you can't go back to the desktop with a gesture on the touchpad - it says you can, but you can't. All you can do is show all the running apps. So, to go find a file located on the desktop you have to minimise the window(s) you are working on - a pain.
3. Fuji RAF files (RAW files from the X100) do render properly in Preview - they didn't in Snow Leopard.
4. You will want to switch back to scrolling the way you always have before instead of using the default "like the iPhone" scrolling action of Lion.
5. Your machine will be a bit slower than before on start up and shut down - a lot of this is likely to be due to the fact that the programmes you had open at shut down are opened up again on startup.
6. Pinch to zoom? No, it doesn't.

That is all for now - mo…

Not my best night with the X100, having seen the pictures I got I'm thinking maybe the D700 should have come with me. However, then it becomes about the photography and not the experience and this event was definitely about the latter. Anyway, this is one of the panoramic photos the camera stitches together itself, no post-processing required. Which is kind of handy.

Going Postal, Oxford Street

This guy managed to draw quite a crowd, although most of them were, he will have noted sadly, amused rather than galvanised by his antics. Presumably some sort of beef arose with the bus driver.

New Camera

The above were taken with a Fuji X100 on day one of ownership. Apologies for the somewhat humdrum subject matter (well, in one of them anyway) - you know how it is with a new camera.
